Reflections
“It taught me a lot about management and what it takes to put on a huge event, but most importantly I learned to never be afraid to take risks or make mistakes. Surround yourself with people who are better than you and help them capitalize on it. Do that and you will be successful.”
Natahnee Spencer, Sport Administration
“Very powerful and enlightening. It was good to hear from another athlete who has made the transition into real life. ‘Don’t be afraid to fall!’”

Basketball as a Calling
Matt Santangelo
Executive Director
Spokane Hoopfest
About Matt:
Basketball has always played a large role in Matt Santangelo’s life. A graduate and former student-athlete of Gonzaga University, Matt continued his basketball career, playing professionally throughout Europe after graduation. Matt eventually moved back to the states and back to where he felt at home, in Spokane, with his wife Cathy; sons Calvin and Luca and daughter Stella. Basketball once again came calling in April of 2014, as Matt took over a new role as Executive Director for Spokane Hoopfest Association and Spokane Regional AAU Basketball Club, involving him in the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world and our region’s premier youth basketball program.
