About Gary:
Gary Picone is in the ninth year of his second term as Lewis-Clark State College’s athletic director, and 18th year overall in the position. Gary's long list of accomplishments include successfully bidding to host the NAIA baseball championship three times. LCSC hosted the NAIA World Series for the 22nd time in 2013 and recently won the bid to host the Series through 2016.
The former Warrior baseball player and head coach (2011-12) was named the NAIA Athletic Director of the Year in 2010 and the NAIA West Region's Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2011. He was recently elected to serve on the National Coordinating Committee (NCC), is the chair of the Frontier Conference's Athletic Directors' Committee, and previously represented the Frontier on the National Administrative Committee. He also is a member of LCSC's President's Council.
Gary came to LCSC as an outfielder under coach Ramon Hooker in 1972. After a three-year career with the Warriors, he joined the coaching staff and was a part of the 1976 team that was the first to qualify for the NAIA World Series. After three-year hiatus from LCSC, Gary returned in 1983 as the Warriors’ pitching coach, staying until he was named executive director of the British Columbia Amateur Baseball Association in 1989.
In his first stint as LCSC athletic director from 1991-2000, Gary helped bring the NAIA World Series back to Lewiston in 1999. Gary’s second term as athletic director, beginning in 2006, has seen several notable improvements to Harris Field, including stadium seating, a new press box, a new lighting system and an overhauled sound system in 2013. In 2014-15, he oversaw the complete resurfacing of the field and the installation of new dugouts and a new backstop.
Gary and his wife Terri have three children, Nina, Rico and Maria, and three grand-children, Marissa, Grady and Jaxson.
