Reflections
“Dan Pambianco shared many great stories that gave me insight to real problems that people in the sporting world have to deal with. His experience allowed for him to give an honest opinion on things that can happen and offer suggestions to best deal with the situations.”
Brody Astle, Sport Adminisration
“Dan Pambianco was an entertaining speaker because his presentation was different than everyone else’s. He made very good points about things that most people don’t think about when getting into the sports business. All of the examples he used really helped to show the importance of having good crisis management when it comes to the media.”

About Dan:
With more than 30 years of experience in public relations, print and broadcast media, Dan Pambianco passes along a breadth of knowledge to students as a lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Humboldt State University. He also works as a communications specialist (editor/writer) in the Department of Marketing and Communications at HSU, producing engaging content for the University’s various publications, including the flagship Humboldt Magazine.
For 22 of his 25 years at Humboldt State, Pambianco served as assistant athletics director at Humboldt State University. His duties included website design and content, photography, media relations, event management and publication design. For 19 years he was the voice of HSU basketball and softball, traveling the country to broadcast games on the radio and Internet.
While working at Humboldt State, Pambianco has been involved with hosting conference, regional and national championships in several sports. He also mentored several students who have gone on to successful careers in the sports information field, including ESPN Director of Communication Paul Melvin.
In 1995, Pambianco established one of the first college athletics' websites in the nation, providing HSU’s sports programs with a web presence before most universities had official sites. Soon thereafter, he initiated live streaming of radio broadcasts through a self-designed, in-house set-up before most streaming companies existed.
In the early 2000s, Pambianco guided a student staff in the production of live television broadcasts of basketball, aired locally on public access. He and veteran producer Rick Macey partnered on creating professional, multi-camera video broadcasts of volleyball, basketball and football games that were also archived online for viewing by alumni and fans throughout the country.
Pambianco has been an active member of College Sports Information Directors of America since 1991. In 1995 he was named CoSIDA college division representative and during his service was active in workshop program organization and the recruitment of sponsorships. He was the first member from an NCAA Division II school to be nominated for the CoSIDA presidential rotation.
Pambianco served as press coordinator and consultant for the United States Olympic Track & Field Trials in 2000 and 2004. He was recruited by the Sacramento Sports Commission again in 2014 to serve as Photography Coordinator for the U.S. Track & Field Championships.
Prior to his career in public relations, Pambianco was an award-winning writer and photojournalist. He earned Society of Professional Journalists honors in editorial, feature, and sports writing, and the Utah Press Association’s 1989 award for reporting on mental health issues. He was also the 2011 recipient of the Fred R. Stabley, Jr., writing award for his feature on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
