About Kathleen:

Currently serving a 3-year term as president of NIRSA (National Intramural Recreational Sports Association), Kathleen is the Assistant Vice President of Campus Life & Executive Director of University Recreation at Washington State University.  During her tenure at WSU, she has been involved in over $140 million campus life facilities including directing the successful opening of the $40 million Student Recreation Center in 2001, and providing leadership to an $86 million renovation project to the student union in 2008.

 

As Executive Director at WSU Kathleen provides leadership and strategic direction to comprehensive programs, services, and recreational facilities with a $12 million annual operating budget. 55 FTE and over 450 student employees.  The department is recognized as a key institutional asset for student success, contributing evidence to retention and the likelihood of graduation.

 

In addition, Kathleen leads a university wide Wellbeing program geared to improving the quality of life for the extended WSU community by inspiring choices for personal and community wellbeing, leading to healthy individuals and sustainable communities.  The initial areas of focus include personal safety, nutrition, leadership, financial literacy, and environmental sustainability, including a campus bike share program.  WSU was recognized as the first university in North America to install an automated bike program in September 2010.

 

Kathleen has a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Calgary, Alberta and a master’s degree in Education from Oregon State University.
