About Tim:

Tim Barker is the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Lewiston, a role that he has served in since 2011. Tim has 18 years of experience in the field of Parks and Recreation with 10 years of that being in Lewiston and has bachelor’s degrees in Recreation Administration and Public Relations from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. He is also a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and holds a Master Level Certification in Sport Law.

He started his professional career with Metro Parks Tacoma in Athletics Administration then moved home to his native state of Oregon about a year later. While in Oregon he was employed with the City of Wilsonville and the City of Portland. Tim’s work experience has been varied and includes the management of recreation programming, park planning, building maintenance, cemetery operations, athletics, park maintenance, urban forestry, aquatics and senior nutrition. While in Oregon Tim was also very involved at the state level through Oregon Recreation and Park Association serving on their board for 5 years. Since having moved to Idaho, Tim has been involved at the state level as well having been an Idaho Recreation and Park Association Conference Chair and on the Board of Directors as the Association’s President. Tim is also a CAPRA (Council on Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies) visitor and goes around the country evaluating other Parks and Recreation departments and whether they meet the standards of a distinguished agency as set by NRPA. Locally, Tim is involved with and sits on the following boards: Hells Canyon Futbol Club, Twin County United Way, Lewis Clark Valley Chamber of Commerce, WA-ID Volunteer Center, Territorial Capital Committee and Beautiful Downtown Lewiston’s Design Committee.

Tim has received such honors as 3 programming awards through ORPA as well as the association’s New Professional of the Year. Tim has also received honors nationally as the National Recreation and Park Association’s Young Professional of the Year for 2011.

The opportunity to pursue other areas within the field and relocate to the Lewis Clark Valley, have brought Tim to Idaho. He is honored to have been given the ability to mold the future of Parks and Recreation in Lewiston and hopes to incorporate his previous experience and ongoing knowledge he receives into building upon and improving the quality of life for Lewiston residents.
